The Rock in the Hat

What happens when the story changes?

The Rock in the Hat takes readers on a deep, evidence-based journey into the origins of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints—and the growing gap between the traditional story many were taught and the historical record now widely available.

Drawing from primary sources, eyewitness accounts, and modern scholarship, this book explores the key claims at the heart of Mormonism and asks a simple but powerful question:

What happens when those claims are tested against history?

 WHAT THIS BOOK       UNCOVERS

  • The real method behind the translation of the Book of Mormon—including the use of a seer stone in a hat
  • The story of the golden plates and the challenges surrounding their physical existence
  • Contradictions in foundational events like the First Vision
  • The Book of Abraham, Kinderhook Plates, and other controversial episodes
  • The role of the internet in exposing previously hidden or overlooked information

Rather than relying on rumor or speculation, The Rock in the Hat follows the evidence—often using the Church’s own sources—to present a clear and accessible case

WHY THIS MATTERS NOW

For generations, access to Mormon history was limited and carefully controlled. But as the book shows, the rise of the internet has changed everything—giving ordinary members the ability to compare official narratives with documented history for themselves.

This shift has led to a growing number of people asking difficult questions about faith, authority, and truth.

I am a graduate of the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History, and also a graduate of Gonzaga University with a Master of Science Degree in Human Resources Management.

I have done extensive research into high control religions, their history, and their inner workings. My book The Rock In The Hat gives a detailed “Outsider’s” view of the true history of the origins of the Book of Mormon and the LDS Church and how the advent of the internet reshaped that history.

My present project is a new book titled LOCKED IN, OR SHUNNED OUT which deals with the destructive nature of the Jehovah’s Witness religion with respect to their children.  The Jehovah’s Witnesses impose a very strict lifestyle on their children, where they are ridiculed at school for not participating in The Pledge of Allegiance, The National Anthem, and extracuricular activites such as sports or clubs.  But the real destruction occurs when 63% of those children in their late teen-age years decide they no longer wish to be in the religion.  At this point they are shunned by their parents, relatives, siblings and lifelong friends for the rest of their lives.  This results in deep psychological issues, even to the point of suicide.
