Locked In or Shunned Out

Locked In or Shunned Out explores the deeply personal and often painful experiences of individuals raised within the Jehovah’s Witnesses. Drawing from real-life testimonies, the book examines the lasting impact of early religious commitment, including baptism at a young age, and the difficult consequences many face when they later choose a different path. For some, leaving the faith as adults can result in profound social and familial separation, affecting relationships with parents, siblings, and lifelong friends. Through these powerful firsthand accounts, Locked In or Shunned Out sheds light on the emotional and psychological toll of these experiences, revealing stories of loss, resilience, and the struggle to rebuild life outside a tightly structured belief system.

DO YOU HAVE A STORY YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE?

I am seeking honest, firsthand accounts from individuals who have been affected by growing up within the Jehovah’s Witnesses—especially those who experienced shunning, isolation, or lasting personal harm. If your childhood was shaped by restrictions that left you feeling excluded, whether sitting out of school activities like the pledge of allegiance or national anthem, being unable to participate in sports or clubs, or facing difficult medical decisions such as the refusal of blood transfusions, your story matters. Many have also faced the painful reality of losing close relationships with family and lifelong friends after choosing a different path in adulthood. This book aims to give voice to those experiences. If you are willing to share your story, you can help shed light on these deeply personal journeys and ensure they are not ignored.  Of course your identity will be kept strictly confidential unless you request otherwise.  As a way of saying “Thank You” I will make sure you receive a free ebook copy of the book when it is released around Christmas time this year.
